Men are so fickle aren’t they?

Like fine wine fine cars are an acquired taste. Early on in your life you like superficially attractive models like the E-Type (favoured by newspaper editors), any Ferrari (favoured by CFOs) and any Porsche (favoured by motoring writers and spivs). But then you move on to real beauty.

Up until yesterday I have been faithful to the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato (favoured by bankers). The factory only gave 19 of its DB4 GTs to Gianni Zagato for a makeover. Using a lot of aliminium and perspex Gianni knocked 45 kgs off its weight and his 23 year old stylist Ercole Spada made one of the world’s most beautiful pieces of metal. Aston Martin launched the car at the 1960 London motor show to huge applause with grown men swooning, grown women speaking in tongues, the dead rising and the stars falling from the firmament.
