Look we all know there are people doing it tough.

They tell me there are quite a few workers who won’t be in Monterey next week. Well I know not everyone can afford the $325 entry to Gordon McCalls Motorworks Revival at the Monterey Jet Centre. But they do throw in free wine and food. That’s if you can find the waitpersons amongst the supercars, super private jets, superbikes and super people.

For those of you who have fond memories of China in the good old days, wine maker Joe Anderson is bringing his newly bought DC3 along to Motorworks. Joe tells me the plane originally belonged to Chiang-Kai Shek. Like many pollies Chiang wasn’t great at running the middle kingdom but he did know how to make a dollar out of it. In one deal he managed to take $50 million off the Yanks and put it in his own pocket. Of course that was in the days when $50 million bought you more than a semi in Toorak.
